Collaboration with Known Designers
According to Vagn Hvam Pedersen, one of the reasons for HWAM’s great success is that the wood-burning stoves are both beautiful and functional. Today, a wood-burning stove is something more than just a heat source. For HWAM, design, aesthetics and function are three sides of the same coin, so to speak, and this is the reason behind the company’s 40 years of collaboration with visionary architects and designers.

The central stove can be paired with lots of options to make your Apple Pie suit your requirements, from stands and metal surrounds to pizza shelves and baking ovens.

Ekol have gone to town on their Apple associations too. With a base unit stand, it’s called an Apple Pie Stack, with a top oven it’s called a Baked Apple Pie. With both, it’s called a Baked Apple Stack.  All this talk of pies made us hungry so we thought we should channel our inner Mary Berry and give it a go! It evenly baked this Apple Pie in about 25 minutes. Yummy.

The gorgeous Baked Apple Stack from Ekol is now on live display in our showroom, complete with apple pie. Yum!

The Apple Pie is the ‘Swiss Army Knife’ of wood burning stoves. It features individual styling and multiple cooking options including stainless cooktop, top baking oven, pan supports to one or both sides as well as griddle plate and pizza shelf inside.

Amongst an elite handful of small-space stoves fully compliant with DEFRA and Ecodesign 2022 it can be used to burn wood anywhere in the UK.

With full cast iron construction and weighing in heavier than many stoves more than twice its size, it really is built to last.

Primary, Secondary and Tertiary air are intuitively controlled by a single air control and with extra large window, enthusiastic fire-starters and chefs can easily monitor their creations.

From the Apple Pie range we have an Apple Core, in charcoal grey and a Baked Apple Stack with Mojave Red Doors.

From the Peanut range we have the Big Nut 5 in the Showroom.

From the Clarity range we have a Clarity 5 with a hand burnished door.

Available in multiple colour options and configurations, including wooden or stainless steel handles. Pop into the showroom to see the Baked Apple Stack in action, we also have the compact Apple Pie on show. Check out the manufacturer’s website here.

Jøtul has produced fireplaces from cast iron since 1853. This is an extremely suitable material that endures high temperatures and rapid changes in temperature. That’s why Jøtul chooses cast iron for their fireplaces, just like car manufacturers use cast iron for their engines.

Why do I need stove glass cleaner?

stove glass cleaner

Why do I need stove glass cleaner?

How clean the glass stays on your stove will depend on a wide range of factors, what experience tells us however, is sooner or later you will need to clean it.

We sell sprays, gels and dry wipe pads to make this chore less arduous, depending on model of stove and the severity of the dirt build up.

glass-cleaner-2For day to day maintenance use J Day Stonework’s top glass cleaning tip – when the stove is cold, dip damp screwed up newspaper into the ashes of a wood fire and use the ashes to rub the surface of the glass.

J DAY STONEWORKS EXPERTS RATING – 5/5 Essential for most stoves

If your stove has constantly blackened glass you may benefit from asking for help on burning techniques, pop in to the yard to see us, we’re happy to help.

The type of wood you burn and the temperature you burn your stove at will make a big difference to the speed in which dirt on your stove glass builds up.  Generally, burning your stove at maximum temperature will keep the glass clean, leaving it on low for long periods (overnight for example) will quickly soot up the glass.

Why do I need a stove fan?

WHY DO I NEED A STOVE FAN?

A stove fan is a heat powered fan that helps to distribute the stoves heat more evenly in the room.  Particularly useful when the stove is not centrally located, it helps to move the warm air around to achieve a comfortable room temperature more quickly and evenly.  Can make the stove look cluttered, and they cannot be used on some modern convector type stoves.

A good quality stove fan will circulate warm air around a wide area using energy generated by your stove heat. The fan speed will vary depending on the temperature of your stove, but it should operate very quietly.

J DAY STONEWORKS EXPERTS RATING – 3/5  Individual circumstances dictate how much benefit will be derived from these devices, but improves heating efficiency in most cases.
